A character's powers are determined by what species they are. This page outlines how to describe your character's powers in your application, and then how they can develop their powers and abilities in the game. You can request new powers and abilities as listed below by spending the required amount of activity points.

Fae
Fae of the Seelie and Unseelie Court grow in power as they increase their rank. Their magic works best in the Other Realm, and is diminished in the mortal realm (assume reduced by 1). Outcast fae lose the majority of their powers.

When you apply for a fae character, you do not need to list the standard fae abilities that all fae have. You do need to list the abilities of your character that are only possessed by some fae.

• Fae can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both) if they become a familiar.
• At level 2, fae can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both) if they are a member of a Court. If your character started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 3, fae can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both) if they are a member of a Court. If your character started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 3 and above, fae can request up to three additional abilities if they are a member of a Court. Outcast fae can do the same only if they swear themselves to another player character.
• At level 4 or 5, fae can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both) if they are a member of a Court.
• For every three plots you lead with a fae character, you can request to either develop an existing ability or gain a new one.

If fae lose rank, their strength and/or magic will decline accordingly. If fae become outcast, their strength and magic will both decline by an additional point.

Ghosts
Ghost powers depend on their emotional state and experience. In your application, please state which ghost abilities your character already has and what potential you see for further development.

• Ghosts can request a +1 magic boost if they gain an anchor who is a player character in the game. If your character started out with an anchor, you cannot claim this boost. If you gain a second anchor, you cannot claim this reward twice.
• Ghosts can request to learn new abilities if they have a player character anchor.
• Ghosts can request an additional +1 magic boost if they have a player character anchor relationship that has lasted at least three months.
• Ghosts can request an additional +1 magic boost if they have multiple player character anchors (2 minimum) that have lasted at least three months.
• For every three plots you lead with a ghost character, you can request a +1 magic boost.

All abilities can be lost and regained. Ghosts who lose their anchors will lose their magical power. The longer they remain without an anchor, the more likely they are to lose their abilities. In practice, this will mean that every month a ghost character goes without an anchor, they will lose one ability. If things get bad enough, they can even lose their ability to manifest.

Anchor interaction should not be hand-waved; you may be asked to link to threads with your character's anchor(s) in order to justify gaining new abilities.

Humans
Ordinary humans have no powers. They can use magical objects that do not require a spell to activate, but otherwise they have no supernatural abilities. Of course, they may have other useful or special skills e.g. weapons they can use, speaking multiple languages, excellent cooking etc. You should list these in your application.

• Humans can become ghosts, vampires or werewolves. Be aware that two of these options involve dying.
• Humans may request to gain an ability through fae magic or a witch's spell. In this case they will be reclassified as meta humans.
• For every three plots you lead with a human character, you can request one free reward (i.e. you don't need to spend any activity points).

Meta Humans
Meta humans by their nature don't have a pre-defined skill set, it varies by individual. In this case describe your character's canon powers in your application.

• At level 2, meta humans can develop one existing ability or request a new ability that fits in with their current skill set.
• At level 2, meta humans can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both), depending on existing skill set. If your character started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 3, meta humans can develop one existing ability or request a new ability that fits in with their current skill set.
• At level 3, meta humans can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both), depending on existing skill set. If your character started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 4 or 5, meta humans can develop one existing ability or request a new ability that fits in with their current skill set.
• At level 4 or 5, meta humans can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both), depending on existing skill set.
• For every three plots you lead with a meta human character, you can request to either develop an existing ability or gain a new one.

These enhancements are permanent and do not go away if you lose a level. However, you cannot claim these rewards a second time by climbing up the ranks again.

Shapeshifters
For shapeshifters, please state in your application which animal they can turn into. Shapeshifters can naturally only turn into one animal, and require magical help from the fae (or from witches using fae) to increase their abilities.

• All shapeshifters can request to learn fae-granted abilities. These must be granted by a fae at level 2 or above.
• After learning their first fae-granted ability, shapeshifters can request a +1 magic boost.
• Shapeshifters can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both) if they become a familiar.
• At level 4, shapeshifters can become dragons, which will automatically add +2 strength in dragon form. This requires a trial of endurance in the Other Realm, and therefore a willing player character fae to take them there.
• Dragons can request an additional +2 strength and +1 magic boost. These must be separate requests.
• Dragons can request additional learned abilities e.g. an elemental power.
• For every three plots you lead with a shapeshifter character, you can request a random unique ability. This will be mod-assigned.

Abilities once learned are permanent, with the exception of dragon abilities and power boosts which will be gradually lost if dragon characters go down to level 3 or below. (Roughly, minus one strength/magic/ability per month.)

Vampires
Vampires have a defined set of powers. If you apply for a vampire whose rank is level 2 or below, they should start out with only the standard vampire abilities. If you apply for a vampire whose rank is level 3, you can add on up to two abilities that they gained by siring other vampires.

• At level 3, vampires can request two additional abilities provided that they have sired other vampires. If you started out with extra abilities at this level, you cannot request any more.
• At level 4, vampires can request two additional abilities provided that they have sired other vampires.
• At level 5, vampires can request two additional abilities provided that they have sired other vampires.
• Vampires can request a +1 magic boost if they have 3 or more vampires they sired in their nest (NPCs are included in this number).
• Vampires can request an additional +1 magic boost if they have 6 or more vampires they sired in their nest (NPCs are included in this number).
• Vampires can request a final additional +1 magic boost if they have 12 or more vampires they sired in their nest (NPCs are included in this number).
• For every three plots you lead with a vampire character, you can request an additional ability.

If vampires lose their progeny, their magical power will reduce accordingly.

Werewolves
Werewolves draw their power from the pack. The larger and more committed the pack, the stronger they will be. In particular, the strength of the alpha increases with the strength of their pack.

• For every 10 members of their pack, werewolves can request a +1 strength boost. (NPCs are included in this number.)
• Werewolves can request a +1 strength or magic boost (one or the other, not both) if they become a familiar.
• At level 2, werewolves can request a +1 strength boost if they are a member of a pack. If you started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 3, werewolves can request a +1 strength boost if they are a member of a pack. If you started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 4, werewolves can request a +1 strength boost if they lead a pack with at least 6 members (NPCs are included in this number).
• At level 5, werewolves can request a +1 strength boost if they lead a pack or packs with at least 12 members (NPCs are included in this number).
• Alpha and king/queen werewolves can request up to five additional abilities.
• For every three plots you lead with a werewolf character, you can request an additional ability.

If pack numbers go down, the strength boost will be removed accordingly.

Witches
For witches, refer to the Magical Items & Spells list and state in your application which spells your character can perform. If your character is a new or inexperienced witch, they should be just starting out with some low level spells. If your character is an experienced witch, feel free to say that they can use all low level spells and then say which mid and high level spells they know.

• All witches can request to learn low and mid-level spells. Only spells from arcane or dark spellbooks need to be requested; your character can learn basic spells as and when they please.
• Witches can request a +1 magic boost if they have entered into a contract with a player character fae in the game or gained a player character familiar. This will be lost if the contract comes to an end or the familiar leaves.
• At level 2, witches can request a +1 magic boost if they are a member of a coven. If your character started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 3, witches can request a +1 magic boost if they are a member of a coven. If your character started out at this level, you cannot claim this boost.
• At level 3 and above, witches can request to learn high level spells.
• At level 4 or 5, witches can request a +1 magic boost if they have learned at least three high level spells. They can also request up to two additional abilities.
• For every three plots you lead with a witch character, you can request an additional ability.

Power Scales
In order to help players determine how strong their characters are in relation to others, each character is given a strength and magic rating on a scale of 0-10. These values are intended to act as a guideline so that players know which characters are likely to have the advantage in a fight.

The mod will assign a strength and magic rating for each character based on their application. Strength refers to the physical power and endurance of a character. Stronger characters are typically also more durable. Magic covers both fae and witch magic, as well as supernatural powers that might be wielded by ghost or meta human characters. Magical characters tend to be more sensitive to magic around them, as well as having stronger resistance to magical forms of mind control.

Strength
0 – Spirits and ghosts with limited physical influence on the world.
1 – Your average human. Even the athletic ones.
2 – Some enhanced strength and endurance beyond human ability. Examples: Newbie wolves in human form, shapeshifters in human form.
3 – Getting into ass-kicking territory. Examples: Newly turned vampires, beta werewolves in human form.
4 – Annoyingly sprightly, can punch through doors. Examples: 100-200 year old vampires, shapeshifters with powerful animal forms, alpha werewolves in human form, beta werewolves in wolf form.
5 – Could easily lift/crush a car or truck, that kind of thing. Examples: Alpha werewolves in wolf form, 300-500 year old vampires, meta humans with a significant "super strength" power.
6 – Could take down half a dozen newbie vampires without breaking a sweat. Examples: 600-900 year old vampires, alpha werewolves with a very strong pack.
7 – We've now reached really scary levels of strength. These guys could punch through a building. Examples: 1000+ year old vampires, king/queen werewolves who have an army at their beck and call.
8 – Even scarier, if you can believe. Others of their kind whimper at their feet. Examples: 2000+ year old vampires, the most powerful dragons.
9 – These guys could smash their way through a city. Examples: Monstrous beings of the invulnerable/unstoppable type, god-like beings.
10 – Off the charts, we're talking world-crushing levels of strength here. God-level powers.

Magic
0 – No magic. None. Zip.
1 – "Hey, look, I can light a candle." Minor magic only. Examples: Meta humans who have a minor magical ability but no range, beginner vampire mind control.
2 – Weak magic. Usually just starting to learn. Examples: Newbie witches, fae of little significance, vampire mind control.
3 – Moderate magic, usually the kind that requires preparation e.g. potions, specific rites and enchantments. Examples: Older vampire mind control, your average witch.
4 – Raw power. Getting into more instantaneous "fry your brain" territory. Examples: Low-ranking fae, meta humans with supernatural power, ghosts who have learned to leave their mark.
5 – Strong magic. The kind that often requires harnessing energy from elsewhere. Examples: Powerful witches, meta humans who would call themselves summoners or sorcerers.
6 – Magic through and through. This level of power is usually reserved for entities that are magical rather than human. Examples: Many fae, witches with more power than is good for them.
7 – Reality-changing territory now. These guys can really mess with your head. Examples: High-ranking fae, the scariest ghosts.
8 – You really, really don't want to piss these guys off. They could kill you with a look. Examples: Exceptionally powerful fae.
9 – Their very presence may warp reality. Examples: God-like beings, the most terrible fae.
10 – "Hey, look, I can alter, create and destroy the universe at will." God-level powers.
