Meta Humans

Meta Humans |
"Meta human" is a catch-all term for humans who were either born with or granted a supernatural power. This could be anything from super strength to telepathy to the ability to breathe underwater. Often this power is a result of supernatural interference, perhaps by witches or one of the fae. Some have a connection to the supernatural through their ancestry, being the children or grandchildren of humans and fae, or through being exposed to magic from the Other Realm. Either way, meta humans often attract attention – and not always of the benevolent kind. Powers Strength: 1-7 | Magic: 0-7 The powers of meta humans vary by individual. There is no pre-determined skill set, and the level of their powers range widely too, from relatively minor powers to abilities that can challenge even powerful fae. Relations with other species Fae: The fact that a meta human has any powers at all is often the fault of the fae. Unfortunately most of them make unreliable mentors and terrible parents. Many meta humans have gone in search of their supernatural origins only to find themselves disappointed or even endangered as a result. Ghosts: Most meta humans are not very good at seeing or communicating with ghosts, unless their power is specifically connected to sensing the dead. Those who do may consider their power a blessing or a curse. Ghosts with strong ties to a particular area or people are better able to manifest themselves so that they can be seen by meta humans. Humans: Meta humans are likely to have at least one ordinary human parent, and many are brought up by humans not realizing that they are any different until their powers begin to manifest (often during puberty). This can cause difficulty for meta humans trying to make sense of their place in human society, especially when the reaction they face from humans is often prejudice or fear. Meta Humans: The sense of community spirit among meta humans who have come together is strong. They often feel out of place in normal society but amongst their own kind, they have a safe space to be themselves. However, there are some meta humans who take this one step further and believe all other species, especially humans, to be a threat. Shapeshifters: Usually get on very well, as shapeshifters fit neatly in with meta humans as another type of misfit. Vampires: Vampires who want to be good citizens may join groups of meta humans in their attempt at going "cold turkey". It doesn't always go well. More commonly, meta humans will work against those vampires who prey on humans, and some specialize in vampire hunting. Meta humans can be turned into vampires, in which case they lose their former powers. Werewolves: Much like vampires, werewolves striving to integrate into society and be good citizens may choose to live among meta humans. Of course, the risk they pose every month must be managed, and so not all meta humans will welcome werewolves. Meta humans can be turned into werewolves, in which case they lose their former powers. Witches: A meta human's powers may also be the result of witchcraft. Covens sometimes bestow powers on ordinary people or use a person as part of a spell. However, this is rare and difficult, and may result in unexpected side effects. Although both often have an interest in creating a peaceful and just community and therefore working together, the reality is more complex. This is particularly true given the capacity that both have to harm the other: witches can remove or suppress a meta human's powers, while meta humans may have powers that give them a distinct advantage over witches. Roles There is no one united meta human community, as meta humans are born to diverse families and may go for years without knowing that they have powers or that the supernatural community exists. In London, the Redbright Institute was created partly to address this gap and it is where many young meta humans find a place to belong. More recently, the Hillingdon Clan have welcomed meta humans who are dissatisfied with the Redbright Institute's policies. There are no ranks specific to meta humans. Instead, they may join other factions and advance through the ranks of those groups. |
